Unwind is those type of rare books that really makes you think back about the sad reality of human nature. The pain people bring to children that are abandoned by their parents.

Now, I'm not gonna ramble about the style of writing or the usual stuffs, but I'm going to elaborate further on the principles as well as the plot of this book -- they are simply thought provoking.

Throughout the entire course of the book, I despise so vehemently parents than decided to unwind their child. What are lives for them? What are their children to them? For me, when a child goes berserk, it is the fault of the parents, because they are simply not doing enough. Not the fault of their children.

I mean, seriously, the law of unwind itself is already disgusting. The notion of having the ability to decide your life only comes to you at the prime age of eighteen. For me, your life is YOUR LIFE, regardless of your age. Not even your parents. And seriously, who are they to decide that people can chop your body and give them to someone else. You're still living my ass. Really, the society in the book has become totally dehumanised. Not entirely per se, but most of the adults are vile unworthy creatures of life itself. In an essence, the laws of unwinding has become a prison to these youngsters. They are under a dictatorship that's not much of a difference as those in Arab Spring. The only difference is, you see, it's their parents that are helping the dictatorship.

Well, regardless of rants, I think that it is a bloody brilliant book. I usually do not prefer books with different perspectives because I prefer to be focused, but it is a nice change of pace. Shusterman managed to bring the confusion, pain, hatred, anger, and agony of those kids. I would rather classify this book to a darker type of YA Dystopian fiction book, even darker than THG imho.

4.5 stars out of 5 stars.
